During the Lenten season, Covenant Trust Company raises money around the office for a Covenant ministry. Employees who make a donation can wear jeans to work on Fridays; we call this fundraiser “Levis for Lent,” and it’s been a fun and successful tradition at the office for the past several years.
This year, AJ Gomez, our Assistant Trust and IRA Administrator, suggested we donate the money to Resurrection Covenant Church for their warming center. The warming center provides food, clothes, and respite from the elements for those in need. Supplies are donated and volunteers keep the ministry going: they provide food and cook meals, and spend time with those who visit.
This year, our office raised $480 with our Levis for Lent fundraiser. Earlier this week, we invited Pastor Aaron Johnson from Resurrection Covenant Church to join us for lunch and presented him with the donation.
Pastor Johnson shared a humbling testimony about the warming center and the people he has met there, and expressed deep gratitude for the donation. He said that the money could go towards a lot of different things, including the purchase of thermal underwear and warm coats for the upcoming winter.
